A few weeks ago, the colors of Fall began its transformation. Every part of my being resisted. I was loving the near perfect weather and wanted to bask in all the green just awhile longer. How about you?
I knew the beauty and magic coming was a gift, but darn it… I wanted the summer season to last forever. Alas… the leaves change when nature makes it so. Eventually, there is no point in resisting.
Of course, the more the colors popped, the more I welcomed every nuanced shade. While the beauty is jaw dropping, I knew this TOO marked a fleeting moment in time. I didn’t want to miss a thing. My camera roll reflects this.
All this is such a great reminder of how we often resist the timing of our own inner shiftings and opportunities to grow and evolve.
Maybe you’re in the midst of one too?
I think we all resist change, at least at first. Some more than others. I’m not talking about Fall being here… and Winter being around the corner. I’m talking about those inner or outer nudges, or not so subtle “two-by-four bonks on the head” inviting us to step into our “what’s next.” It may require some “no shit, no kidding” adjustments in how we show up in relationships or our careers, maybe letting go of a bad habit or two, or shifting our mindset in very uncomfortable ways. Maybe it’s simply making peace with the current demands of your life. Often easier said than done.
It can be quite annoying, right??? Again???! Really? I need to adjust things again???!!! Now??? %?*&@^??? I need to grow and evolve? Or find alignment with THIS new situation? Just when I was getting comfortable. (((sigh)))
But, what if we embraced our personal invitation to evolve in the same way we savor the vibrant changes of color of Autumn?
I was thinking about this last week as I took in the array of colors at every turn of my walk with Cruzer.
In Fall, the trees get to share their inner beauty one last time before the wind ultimately claims its used up leaves. The trees prepare for winter by shedding its now old exterior and shifts its energy to strengthen its roots. In the midst of winter, it’s hard to imagine the abundant fresh green life that inevitably re-emerges in spring — stronger and more magnificent than ever. Yes, the joy of spring always comes!
Maybe we can learn to trust our cycles of transformation just as the forest reliably trusts its own metamorphous.
We can trust ourselves to let go of what isn’t needed any longer, so we can go inward to strengthen and nurture our roots (aka = habits, mindset, knowledge). We can trust that as we commit to evolving into the next version of ourselves, we’ll soon be vibrantly emerging into the world in fresh ways. And as those new ways of being express themselves, trust that we’ll soon be delighting in our more powerful and beautiful selves… until the next opportunity to evolve presents itself.
May we all recognize that transformation is a gorgeous process, even if it looks and feels messy in the midst of change. Hope you’re savoring the process too.
Pics from Water Rock Nob
Last weekend, we visited Water Rock Nob in the Blue Ridge Mountains, just 45 minutes from home. At the higher altitudes, the trees are already more barren, though the views breath-taking! Not to mention the “breath taking” hike to the summit! Phew!!!
As I embrace each stripped down tree left in raw vulnerability, I’m reminded of what’s at the core of each of us — strength, flexibility and the innate desire to grow… again and again. Let’s do that with unwavering inner peace.
